The OctetRed96 uses the BLI (Bio-Layer Interferometry) technique to measure the interaction between 2 proteins. This interaction is measured by analyzing the interference pattern of white light reflected from 2 surfaces:
- An internal reference layer
- A layer of immobilized protein on the tip of the sensor
When additional components bind the protein that is immobilized on the biosensor the thickness of the layer increases, causing a shift in wavelength which is detected by the sensor. Using this instrument the operator is able to monitor the concentration of proteins (even in crude media), the binding specificity and the rates of association and dissociation. A wide range of biosensors are available allowing measurement of a wide range of molecules.
